Nature’s bounty and all of its wonders are the soul of my work.

Driven by passion

At an early age book illustrations touched the heart of young Kathy Crowther. Painting became her passion and has remained so through out her life. Kathy’s purpose became clear to her, through her art she could bring joy to others.

Nature has been her constant inspiration. Ever changing landscapes and habitats for flora and fauna present new subjects to discover wherever you are.

Kathy works on one painting at a time, giving each her full attention and concentration. Detailed realism is her hallmark. Painting is like putting a puzzle together. Positive and negative space play a huge role in the balance and design of each picture. Kathy’s paintings have a fluid, or motion-like feeling that leads the observer from one portion of the image to the next and beyond.

Her trademark for several years has been painting over the mat. Like nature, her paintings depict a sense of continual growth and a profusion of color.

Kathy’s paintings are instantly recognizable as unique. Detailed studies of nature with brilliant color combinations in gouache, outlined in ink, bring joy and excitement to her work. Flora and fauna are rendered in their natural habitat with echoes and inter-relationships of pattern, shape, and color. Kathy’s work reflects her love of nature and invites us to look at the world as she does – through her watercolors.

Kathy’s art education started at the age of ten with classes at the Cleveland Art Museum. Formal training continued in high school, at West Virginia University, Oglebay Institute and the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Kathy begins each day with a cup of coffee and a paint brush. Painting is a celebration of life and a discovery of the beauty that surrounds us all.
